World War ll Veteran and Local Author Honored
World
War ll veteran, William “Billie” Armstrong was one of a small band of special
guests invited to the U.S. Army Garrison-Kwajalein Atoll in January to commemorate
the 71st anniversary of Operation Flintlock. Bill and the other men
were part of the campaign against the Marshal Islands in the Pacific campaign of World
War ll.
Bill has authored two books detailing the events and his part in the
invasion to free the island of Kwajalein from the Imperial Japanese force. Both books,
Survival on a Coral Planet and The First Voyage are his eyewitness accounts to this historical event. A special feature
of the books is the great collection of photographs Bill included in retelling
