Wold War ll Veteran Honored

World War ll Veteran and Local Author Honored

World War ll veteran, William “Billie” Armstrong was one of a small band of special guests invited to the U.S. Army Garrison-Kwajalein Atoll in January to commemorate the 71st anniversary of Operation Flintlock. Bill and the other men were part of the campaign against the Marshal Islands in the Pacific campaign of World War ll.

Bill has authored two books detailing the events and his part in the invasion to free the island of Kwajalein from the Imperial Japanese force. Both books, Survival on a Coral Planet and The First Voyage are his eyewitness accounts to this historical event. A special feature of the books is the great collection of photographs Bill included in retelling the dramatic events of the invasion. Booth books are available at amazon.com.

Local Author’s Book Soon to be a Movie

A movie producer has optioned the rights to award winning  author and Amazon bestselling book No Paved Road To Freedom by Sharon Rushton. Based on a true story, the book chronicles the story of Cornel Dolana who lives through the communist takeover of Romania after the end of World War II, and Dolana's harrowing escape to freedom.

The producer Michael Cuccolo said, “This book is equally as inspiring as Unbroken and for those of us who take freedom for granted, it is a must read.”  Normally the only way to reach a movie producer is through an agent. Cuccolo came to read No Paved Road To Freedom because of a recommendation from his mother. “For two months my mother kept telling me, “You have to read this book!” When he was visiting her over the holidays, he picked up the book. “I had been going through some difficult times. I read the book in three settings, and it has literally changed my outlook on life. If Mr. Dolana can do what he did, then any of us can achieve our dreams and goals. Truly a life changing read!”

Cuccolo said that his company has completed their outline and have started writing the script. They are making a few modifications, and he is promoting it as the ultimate “American Dream” story and says, “ It’s like Unbroken meets The Shawshank Redemption."

No Paved Road To Freedom by Sharon Rushton is available at Amazon.com.
